The purpose of this training is to strengthen childcare provider’s foundational knowledge of fiscal terms, concepts, and practices. It encourages providers to realize the importance of fiscal planning to the sustainability of their business operations.

It provides tips and best practices in fiscal, organizational, and financial goals and human resource documents in order to help break down the fiscal processes into manageable steps.

Session I: Budgets, Planning, Projections •Learn a process for building a budget and how to use it for decision making throughout the year. •Understand how to project business costs, generate additional income, and plan strategically for future goals.

Session II: Financial Reports and Internal Controls

•Introduce financial reports that can help you to better manage your program’s finances. •Identify what internal controls mean in a family childcare setting and how they can strengthen the fiscal health of your program

Session III: Marketing Your Program

•Understand the definition and value of marketing efforts that are focused both externally and internally. •Be able to articulate your program’s features and benefits and understand how to use each as marketing tools. •Appreciate how information can help you make marketing decisions about where to spend your time, energy, and resources

Session IV: Staff Recruitment & Retention for Family Child Care Providers

•Recognize best practices related to recruiting, interviewing, and hiring new employees. •Develop a framework for building an effective orientation plan for new employees. •Describe the components of an employee handbook
